Detroit’s New Big Star

Big herk is no stranger to Detroit but may sooner than you think hit a national audience. Born and raised on Woodrow st in Detroit Michigan big herk made his debut back in 2003 with his critically acclaimed mixtape guilty as charged. Featuring hits like ima boss, told yall featuring J-Nutty, and rock bottom the mixtape quickly became one of the fastest selling mixtape ever to sell in Detroit reportedly moving over 15,000 units in just 2 weeks. For those of you who are unfamiliar with a mixtape witch is basically a free album or collection of songs an artist usually puts out to gain a fan base or promote an album. Big herk then followed up this mixtape with a second installment to this series called still guilty the underground DVD and LP in 2004. This mixtape did considerably better than guilty as charged reportedly selling 45,000 units in just its first week. The mixtape featured singles like M.O.T.O.W.N. Featuring K.D. and J-Nutty, and 21 Gun Salute Featuring Duke and T-Dot. Then in 2005 he was featured on Royce DA 59s album independence day on the track ride also featuring fellow Detroit rapper k deezy. This song was big herks first national and billboard debut topping at 84 on the billboard hot 200 and reaching 37 on rap charts. After this success he was featured on a host of tracks with fellow Detroit rappers including a feature on k deezys debut album Stuck N My Ways witch to date has moved 437,000 units. All these features eventually caught the attention of two up and coming producers in Detroit who together formed the group the Detroit deli who got all the notable underground rappers in Detroit at the time together to make a compilation album entitled The Detroit Deli: a taste of the new flavor of the D. The album did well but did not chart on a national level still keeping big herk to a strictly Detroit fan base. After this disappointment big herk decided to start rock bottom entertainment and produce artists like duke, k deezy, Juan, bo$$, j nutty, and t dot. But in 2009 big herk announced that he had begun work on his first debut album to be entitled overdose. Although the album has yet to see the light of day big herk has released a list of singles including its not a game, play n for keeps, shake that s***, and Dear god. The album was set for release in the summer of 2011 but has been pushed back to sometime in the near future according to sources in big herks camp rock bottom who said that the album is done they are just waiting for the record company to give them a release date. Whether nationally known or not big herk remains one of the hottest rappers in Detroit and is considered by most who know him to be the best to  ever do it in Detroit and with two high selling mixtapes, over 35 features, and an appearance on the Detroit delis compilation album big herk has the body of work to back it up.
